IGF-1 LR3 is Long R3 insulin-like growth factor 1, a recombinant analog of human IGF-1 carrying an arginine substitution at position 3 and a 13-residue N-terminal extension. Those two modifications are what define it: they substantially reduce its affinity for the insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) that sequester native IGF-1 in culture systems.
